Harbour & Anchor Directors

Myah & Jamal

As Directors of Harbour & Anchor Community and Youth Support Services, Myah and Jamal established the organisation with a deep commitment to supporting vulnerable young people and their families during times of crisis. Their vision was born from a recognition that many at-risk young people and families often lack a safe, trustworthy place to seek support without fear of judgement. Guided by compassion and authenticity, they have dedicated themselves to creating a service that places genuine care, trust, and stability at its core.

Myah brings over seven years of experience working alongside young people and families in youth work and residential care services. Her professional expertise, combined with her lived experience growing up in the child safety system, has given her a unique perspective on the gaps and challenges within the sector. This drives her strong advocacy for genuine, person-centred support that truly reflects the individual needs of young people and families.

Jamal, an Aboriginal Narungga man from South Australia, brings extensive experience as a youth worker and a deep cultural connection that strengthens his work with young Indigenous people and families. His focus on cultural safety, mentoring, and community engagement ensures that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people feel respected, valued, and connected to their identity and heritage.

Together, Myah and Jamal are passionate about ensuring that every young person and family feels heard, respected, and empowered to move forward with hope and resilience. Their combined leadership grounds Harbour & Anchor in authenticity, cultural awareness, and a vision of building stronger, more supportive communities.

“Having grown up in the child safety system myself, I've experienced firsthand, the barriers and obstacles young people face.

My journey into youth work and residential care opened my eyes to the gaps in the system, and the impact that ungenuine support or disconnected decision-making can have on young people and families. Too often, I witnessed formal decisions being made without truly considering the personal circumstances and individual needs of those most affected.

With over seven years of experience working alongside young people and families, and as a proud mother to three children of my own, I have dedicated myself to advocating for meaningful, person-centred support. Both my professional practice and my role as a parent have shown me how critical it is that young people and families feel safe, respected, and genuinely understood. I have seen how the right guidance, delivered with authenticity and compassion, can change the trajectory of a young person’s life.

Through Harbour & Anchor, my vision is to create a service where young people and families never feel dismissed or unheard, but instead experience genuine care, cultural safety, and a strong sense of belonging. My personal journey fuels my passion to challenge systemic shortcomings, amplify the voices of young people, and ensure they feel seen, valued, and supported in ways that truly reflect their individuality and resilience.”
