YOUTH MENTORING SERVICES

At Harbour & Anchor, our Youth Mentoring Program provides young people with positive role models, guidance, and consistent support to help them navigate life’s challenges and reach their potential. This service is designed for young people up to the age 18, who may be experiencing barriers such as disengagement from school, low confidence, limited family or community support, or risk-taking behaviours. Our mentors build strong, trusting relationships with each young person, offering encouragement, stability, and practical strategies for personal growth.

The Youth Mentoring Program includes:

  • One-on-one youth mentoring, where young people engage in rapport-building activities, both individually and in the community

  • Participation in community events and activities, helping young people strengthen social connections, develop a sense of belonging, and build positive networks

  • Regular mentoring sessions that provide structure, routine, and accountability

  • Practical skill-building in areas such as education, employment readiness, life skills, and community engagement

  • Positive role modelling, helping young people develop resilience, self-esteem, and healthy decision-making

  • Strong cultural awareness, with a focus on inclusion, respect, and meaningful connection for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people

  • Collaboration with families, schools, and external services, ensuring holistic support that aligns with the young person’s wider needs

Our mentors work with compassion and consistency, offering a safe and supportive space where young people feel heard and valued. By fostering resilience, motivation, and self-belief, the Youth Mentoring Program empowers young people to strengthen their sense of identity, achieve their goals, and build a positive vision for their future.

  • Facing transitional periods without stable housing

Every young person accessing our service is supported by a dedicated youth support team, offering 24/7 care and tailored case management. We work holistically to address the underlying factors contributing to the crisis, and to help young people stabilise and plan for the future.
